This is a packaging design system for a cosmetic line inspired by the classic retro style of old Shanghai circa 1930. I aimed to capture the essence of the era's iconic advertisements featuring Shanghai women. Drawing from this nostalgic backdrop, I incorporated design elements reminiscent of the time period.
Design elements I would like to follow this retro style with an illustration design of this Shanghai woman in a cheongsam, as well as traditional elements that were prevalent in the 1930's, such as traditional Chinese patterns, flowers and somethings. Using these elements in the package design can create a strong retro style. There are also color plate that were very popular in 1930, like, green, pink, purple and other colors.
For the cream, body wash, and body butter packaging, I've chosen bamboo, roses, and orchids as key design elements. These symbols, deeply ingrained in Chinese culture, evoke elegance and nostalgia. Bamboo represents strength, roses signify love and beauty, while orchids symbolize refinement and luxury. Incorporating these elements adds a touch of sophistication to the product line, celebrating the timeless allure of old Shanghai.
